UPDATE: The hull of the luxurious Sportfish super yacht has been turned over.

The 52-metre sportfish superyacht Royal Huisman Project 406’s hull has been turned at the shipyard in Vollenhove, the Netherlands, marking a significant milestone in the yacht’s construction. With the hull completed, spectators could see the yacht’s long bow, high bulwarks, and the outline of the fishing cockpit.

The one-of-a-kind and luxurious vessel will also have six decks and will be among the world’s largest sportfish yachts. The Dutch studio Vripack designed her entire interior and exterior, as well as her naval architecture, and Royal Huisman Shipyard completed her engineering.

The Alustar® aluminium hull, which was recently built by Royal Huisman’s in-house welders, provides strength and resilience. It also achieves a lighter weight, which ensures a more efficient and smooth passage to the fishing grounds.

Since the project’s inception, Bush & Noble has contributed expert sportfishing knowledge, along with Hampshire Marine, which has managed the technical aspects, and Aqua Marine, which has handled the logistics. Pascarelli Consulting has represented the owners.

Jan Timmerman, CEO of Royal Huisman, said of the event, “Some have commented that a sportfishing vessel – even one as exceptional as this – seems an unusual excursion for a shipyard best known for its magnificent ocean-going sailing yachts.” But this is not the case. During Huisman’s first 50 years, the general area where Project 406’s hull was turned was once the shore of the inland sea known as the ‘Zuiderzee.’ Huisman-built fishing boats would operate in all weather conditions on the waters of this sea to demonstrate their dependability. The Noordoostpolder, reclaimed land, now occupies much of that sea area, though a canal still exists. However, that strong link

Seeing as owners are now specifying further needs out their new vessels, having a luxurious super yacht doubling as a fishing vessel is amazing! But how far will it go?
