The beautiful yachts designed by Cristiano Gatto Design

With the design team now overtaking 200 projects, its clear to see why Cristiano Gatto Design is on top of the design chain when it comes to Yachts. Cristiano Gatto has assembled a strong 14 man design team which now works on 10s of projects at a time.

The independent design studio is located on the outskirts of Venice, where the team says it keeps them stimulated with ideas constantly, “There is so much detail of construction around us that we are constantly stimulated, constantly questioning how something has been created, looking for solutions to problems in a design by turning to the architecture around us. Italy is part of the personality of the studio, and it makes me hugely proud to be Italian.”

during his incredible 30 year career, it was asked of him to select three poignant superyachts that for Gatto, define the course of the studio, the approach of the design team and his vision.

The first being Ocean Victory |ISA | 2005| 47.5-metres

“The pressure was there for me as this young designer was given the yacht of a truly great designer and the result was fantastic because it epitomised the way that I work and have done ever since. The combination of materials really surprised people at first, she was the first yacht to use leather on the floors. I did a huge amount of research and tested the materials extensively to create something that had a different feel than anything else in the fleet, but which was also practical and reliable.”

Nova | Cosmo Explorer | 2013 | 47.75-metres

When she was delivered in 2013, the boat was nominated for best exterior and won best interior design at the World Superyacht Awards, setting off a new trend in yachting that took rival studios four years to catch up with.

Home | Heesen Yachts | 2017 | 49.8-metre

“It’s difficult to choose just one more iconic boat from the last several years, but it has to be a Heesen, with whom we’ve collaborated for 11 years, beginning with Crazy Me.”

Cristiano Gatto Design’s design team is now working on 22 projects, including interior and exterior, which is a fantastic accomplishment for 14 designers. This year, 14 yachts are being built, with more vessels from the studio joining the fleet each year, a remarkable tribute to a life dedicated to material exploration, sculptural creativity, and sailboat design.
